| Leonetto Cappiello began his career as a cartoonist and in 1900 he decided to devote his time fully to painting and advertising poster design. He often painted the figures in his posters on monochrome backgrounds with vivid graphics, innovating advertising poster design and establishing him as the most acclaimed European artist of the time. The halls of the Galeries Lafayette in Paris are decorated with Cappiello's paintings.
